It’s been a very eventful couple of weeks for the Kochmit family.
Milo has been doing great with his g-tube feeds. The only time he has vomited is when he has eaten too much by mouth.
Milo has had a taste of the good life and there is no going back. He is going nuts for food. He giggles and smiles his way through every meal. And he loves to share. A little too much. We have to keep the dogs away so he doesn’t throw food to them. And I would prefer less mushed up foods from his dirty mitts being shoved in my face. From October until his surgery Milo had been refusing food. I never thought I’d see this day again. But he is loving every bite.
Some of his favorite foods so far are soup, blueberries, sous vide egg bites, rice pudding, mango smoothies.
If he hears the crinkle of a wrapper he will lose his mind until he gets a goldfish or pirates booty in his hand. He lunges at anyone eating. It’s amazing. He has even learned how to drink out of a sippy AND a straw.
Yesterday, Milo had his 6 week post op esophagram. It’s never enjoyable holding him down to a table with an x-ray machine over him while a stranger force feeds him barium. But, he handled it like a champ and really enjoyed his bite of a dorite donut as his reward. I watched the screen while the did the esophagram and am very hopeful that there is no major stricturing going on. But I am not a doctor. I dropped off the CD at UPS today and it is on its way to Dr. Smithers at All Children’s Hospital in Florida. So now, the hard part. We wait. We hope. We pray. And we watch Milo continue to amaze us.
And amaze us he always does. That boy has been on the cusp of walking for months. And yesterday when we got home from the hospital as I sat there stressing the esophagram results and next steps. He took his first steps. And then didn’t stop. He’s off and running! After everything he is been through. Months laying in a hospital bed. Our boy walked. My mama heart is still exploding today.
So Bubbie will keep me good and busy while we wait.
